The Inspiration

Whilst working on a youth support programme called ‘Hands On’ for pregnant teenagers, Nina saw the diet and nutrition of the young women she was working with was incredibly poor.

Time, money and a lack of awareness all contributed to this, with resulting symptoms including weight issues, mood swings, aggression and depression. She adjusted the diets of some of the participants based on what she learnt from her own nutritionist after food allergy testing and found not only did the symptoms disappear, but they had greater self-esteem and confidence.

This, combined with her personal experience with dietary change, inspired Nina to study nutritional therapy at the College of Natural Nutrition. Her studies helped her see clearly the connection between good health and nutrition with how much the young people she’d worked with engaged with various youth projects. Time and again she’d seen people that seemed determined to transform their lives fail to turn up to meetings, interviews, training etc, because they just couldn’t get out of bed in the morning.

“I wanted to create something that teaches young parents the importance of good nutrition, for them and their children, to improve their health, self-esteem and confidence; which in turn improves other aspects of their lives.”  Nina Ross, Young Parents Project Founder.
